Startup of a reactive distillation process with a decanter

    Get PDF
The startup of a reactive distillation process for the production of propyl acetate including a decanter is studied. A simulation model is presented which describes the whole startup from a cold and empty state and takes into account the liquid phase split in the decanter. The simulation model is successfully validated with own dynamic experimental data. Different startup strategies are developed and analysed in simulation studies showing the high influence of the initial charging of decanter and reboiler on the startup time

21p.International audienceThe CERTOP's team achieved a research on executives and high skilled employees in France (in French: cadres) about their working time, their involvement in their professional life and their social temporalities characterizing their everyday life. This research has been financed by the national agency for research and carried out in seven companies and administrations. The approach is based on 100 interviews with a transcribed text corpus of 600,000 words. It is used to identify the existence of a complex ill-being at work. On the one hand, this ill-being appears around three major difficulties: stress, lack of symbolic recognition and social tensions within the company. On the other hand, this discomfort should be analyzed by taking into account the well-being that the high skilled employees still express concerning their activity. Overall the article describes the nuanced portrait of a social category that is characterized by its heterogeneity, but also by a desire to escape temporality constraints and time- urgency in order to find a quality of life that reinvests the private sphere.L'Ă©quipe du CERTOP a menĂ© une recherche sur les cadres en France, leur temps de travail, l'implication dans leur vie professionnelle et sur les temporalitĂ©s sociales qui caractĂ©risent leur quotidien.

A laser beam deflection system for heat treatments in large scale additive manufacturing

    Get PDF
Large Scale Additive Manufacturing (LSAM) based on plastic raw material is known for high material output and thus, increased productivity. For an improvement of part properties LSAM is combined with a laser process. Depending on the deposition direction, the laser beam needs to be repositioned to reach the space between two adjacent and consecutively printed strands. Therefore, an optomechanical design is required that allows variable orientation of the laser beam. It consists of a combination of an elliptical, tube-like mirror with an additional, rotatable flat mirror in one of its focal axes. The deflected laser beam hits the second focal axis where the extruder nozzle is located. Thus, > 75% of the nozzle circumference is covered during a laser beam treatment. Both mirrors are individually designed custom-made parts. Its functional verification lays the foundation for an improved additive manufacturing process, which aims to homogenize the component structures to improve the mechanical properties of 3D-printed components

Towards Human Digital Twins for Improving Customer Experience

    Get PDF
Applications of digital twin (DT) technology have gained momentum in IS research and cognate disciplines. Several studies have documented how DTs create value in contexts such as manufacturing or smart cities through virtual monitoring and decision-making. While these contexts benefit from DTs of products or production steps, this research is the first to investigate the potentials of human DTs to improve customer experience (CX) (i.e., customer twins). Drawing on a structured literature review, we derive new conceptualizations of DTs as (i) virtual mirrors that depict a physical entity and its interactions in virtual space, and (ii) virtual orchestrators which extend the virtual mirror by also simulating potential virtual interactions. These new conceptualizations, by applying them to human DTs, enable us to discuss DT’s implications to approach current CX potentials. The results of the discussion indicate that human DTs can support CX management to improve CX throughout the whole customer journey
